The coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) can be effectively prevented from infecting patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) by S309 antibodies isolated from patients with the disease, according to a new immunological study published in the international journal Nature. As of May 11,the WHO website has documented 110 COVID-19 vaccines in development, of which eight have reached clinical trials phase.Four of the eight vaccines were developed by Chinese teams,three from the United States and one from the United Kingdom, using non-replicating viral vectors, RNA, inactivated virus and DNA as carriers. Using three biomarkers, the machine learning algorithm can predict the individual mortality rate of COVID-19 patients at least 10 days in advance, with an accuracy of more than 90 percent, according to a paper published in the journal Nature Machine Intelligence by Tongji Hospital. On May 19, local time, the Dutch government reported a suspected COVID-19 animal transmission case. In a statement on its website, the government said it was conducting a mandatory inventory of all mink farms in the country because of evidence that someone had contracted COVID-19 from a mink. In their paper "A biomimetic eye with A hemisphere pherical perovskite nanowire array retina", published in the latest issue of the journal Nature, Gu Leilei and Fan Zhiyong of HKUST propose an innovative hemispherical "retina", which consists of a nanoscale photoelectric sensor array that imitate the photoreceptor cells in the human retina. Using an electrochemical artificial eye based on the device, the researchers compared it to human eyes in a number of tests and found that the "artificial eye" already had the basic ability to capture patterns in images.
