BAST organized a meeting to discuss the construction of Scientific Thought Approaches Theme Exhibition Hall of Science Education Museum.

    On December 18, Beijing Association for Science and Technology (BAST) organized a meeting to discuss the construction of the Scientific Thought Approaches Theme Exhibition Hall of Beijing Science Education Museum. Ma Lin the Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of BAST, Sun Xiaofeng the member of the Leading Party Members' Group & Vice Chairman of BAST attended the meeting, which presided by Chen Weicheng the Associate Counselor & Director of the Science Popularization Department of BAST. More than forty people  - seventeen young scientists including Zheng Yongchun, Chen Zheng and Wu Baojun etc. the members of the Young Scientist Social Responsibility Committee of  China Science Writers Association (CSWA)  and working in Chinese Academy of Sciences, Universities and Science & Technology Education fields, as well as the staff of the Research and Publicity Department of BAST, Science Popularization Department of BAST, Beijing Development Center of Science Popularization and Beijing Science Center participated in the meeting.

　　From the angle of the profound influence of science and technology for the social development and change, Ma Lin introduced the relevant  work indicating BAST’s high attention to public understanding of science, and the the achievements BAST acquired in serving the promotion of the improvement of citizen’s science literacy as well. Meanwhile, Ma Lin pointed the “Three Unbalanced Problems” existing in the work of science popularization at this stage; he expressed that constructing the Scientific Thought Approaches Theme Exhibition Hall of Science Education Museum was an important acting point to innovate the work of science popularization; he hoped that the science & technology workers of the Social Responsibility Committee of Young Scientists would actively participate in the work of constructing the Scientific Thought Approaches Theme Exhibition Hall of Science Education Museum, and jointly promote the upgrading of science education venues of Beijing.

　　Focusing on promoting the construction of the Scientific Thought Approaches Theme Exhibition Hall of Science Education Museum, the young scientists actively laid their thoughts; and the participants of the meeting exchanged ideas enthusiastically. They reached the consensus as following: 

　　The cause of science popularization has developed to the current level; accordingly, only disseminating scientific knowledge is far from serving the task of improving the public’s science literacy which is the demand of science popularization of new era; therefore, it is necessary to change the current key emphasis and approaches of science popularization to boost the dissemination of science methods and science thoughts. Besides, science education venues – science & technology centers and museums are important resources to supplement the science education carrying out in schools. There are massive abovementioned venues in Beijing area; so there is huge potential and advantage to further discover and to utilize. 

　　Combining their respective experience and feelings of doing science popularization as science research staff, the young scientists made helpful & penetrating proposals about the important topics – the content, style, construction measures, and responsible units of Science Thought Approach Theme Exhibition Hall of Science Education Museum.
