A Symposium summarizing the work of Beijing Camp of 2018 National Youth Science Camp was organized.

On October 19, a Symposium summarizing the work of Beijing Camp of 2018 National Youth Science Camp was organized. Liu Xiaokan the member of the Leading Party Members' Group & Vice Chairman of Beijing Association for Science and Technology (BAST), Hou Chunxu the Deputy Director of University and Schools Cooperation Department of Youth Science and Technology Center of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the representatives of 11 universities (e.g. Peking University, Tsinghua University), 4 organizers of theme camps and Beijing Municipal Education Commission attended the symposium, which was presided by Lu Xiaopeng the Deputy Director of Beijing Youth Science and Technology Center.

Firstly, the participants watched the excellent review video of Beijing Camp of 2018 National Youth Science Camp. Then, the Beijing Camp Administration Office of National Youth Science Camp summarized the activities of Beijing Camp in 2018, focusing on the overall features, highlights, weaknesses and experience. This year, the number of involving universities and that of participating students of Beijing Camp stably rank top of the country. Basing on the successful experience of previous years, Beijing Camp continued to raise the percentage of both DIY and Experience activities, to help the students to experience the charm and fun of science even more vividly.  Beijing Camp sponsored more than 20 lectures given by experts, invited more than 10 Academicians to participate, coordinated the laboratories for their open to the high school and middle school students at least 40 times, organized students to visit more than 20 national key laboratories, sponsored more than 50 science & technology practice activities, and organized students to visit more than 20 science popularization venues.

Then, the relevant units shared their work status and experience respectively, and made pragmatic suggestions towards the event of next year.  For example, they suggested that the manifold requirements of students of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan would be met by surveying them in advance; the rewarding mechanism for volunteers would be set to encourage & appreciate their industrious contribution; the new media approaches – such as the app Douyin, delighted to hear and see by young people would be used for propagation to further extend the influence of this activity; and the schedule & the design of the activity would be further improved. 

On behalf of China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Hou Chunxu expressed the appreciation for the support of the participating universities and units, confirmed the continuous conscientiousness & endeavor for the work of Science Camp, and also made some suggestions for the work of next year.

Liu Xiaokan, on behalf the leading group of Beijing Camp, expressed thankfulness to the strong support and industrious work of CAST, relevant universities and units for Beijing Camp. He expressed although during the period of Beijing Camp, heavy downpour took place; all the participating universities and units still completed their tasks successfully, showing the wonderful support of working mechanism. He emphasized Science Camp was a long-term program; and it was a leading idea for the future work to, on the base of current situation, gradually innovate, continuously improve and evolve into a mature program. He said that the annual Science Camp attracted more than ten thousand high school students throughout the country to participate; and it was a program with relative large social influence and importance.

During the meeting, the Excellent Organizer Award for the participating universities, enterprises and science research units were presented; and the Special Contribution Award went to Beihang University.
