Center for Digital Economy is jointly established
Scientific researchers should be encouraged to give advice and suggestions so that the digital economy can better empower industry, society and human life.
With the aim to build a high-end think tank platform in the field of digital economy, Center for Digital Economy was jointly established by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Tianjin Municipal People’s Government and Nankai University on June 24, 2020.

Huai Jinpeng, executive vice president and chief executive secretary of CAST, Yu Lijun, member of the Standing Committee of the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and secretary of the Municipal Education Working Committee, and Yang Qingshan, secretary of the Party committee of Nankai University addressed the founding conference respectively.
Cao Xuetao, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and president of Nankai University, Gong Ke, president of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) attended the conference.
Rao Zihe, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and president of the Tianjin Science and Technology Association, presided over the conference.
In his speech, Huai Jinpeng emphasized that we must thoroughly implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping’s important instructions to coordinate COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control with economic and social development.
The attendees should accelerate the process of digital industrialization and industrial digitization, cultivate new economic growth poles and accumulate momentum to promote both quality and efficiency, so as to draw a blueprint of transformation and development for digital economy, added Huai.
The center would conduct in-depth research on issues such as digital technology revolution and industrial transformation, integration of digital technology and economic and social life, technology ethics and social governance, global cooperation and challenges in the digital economy era, innovative talents and the development of SMEs, noted Huai.
Researchers should be encouraged to make suggestions to enable the digital economy better empower industry, society and human life, and effectively play the role as a stabilizer for production resumption, an accelerator for economic revitalization and a multiplier for new economic dynamism, stressed Huai.
In his speech, Yu Lijun said that Tianjin would fully support the construction of the research center and work together to build the center into a domestic first-class and internationally renowned think tank, so as to contribute Chinese wisdom and provide Chinese solutions to the world.
Yang Qingshan said in his speech that Nankai University would build a first-class think tank platform under the guidance of CAST and the Tianjin Municipal Party Committee and Government, form a first-class research team and produce first-class research results, so as to promote institutional innovation and help formulating digital economic development for the country.
The conference announced Professor Gong Ke served as the president of the center, and academician Liu Yunjie, director of the Science and Technology Commission of the China Unicom, served as the director of the academic board of the center.

After the founding ceremony, the Center for Digital Economy organized the International Summit on Digital Economy and Future Development in a combination form of online and offline.
Liu Yunjie, Li Jie, author of Industrial Big Data and Industrial Artificial Intelligence, Sun Keyi, head of Foxconn's Industrial Artificial Intelligence Department, Professor Marcus Taube, Institute for East Asian Studies at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Guo Yike, academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering, vice president of Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), Rong Chunming, academician of Norwegian Academy of Engineering, IEEE Blockchain co-chairman, Xiao Feng, vice president and executive director of China Wanxiang Holdings Co., Ltd., Kong Xiaoyan, director of Tianjin Property Rights Exchange Center, Yang Hui, director of Cloud Account (Tianjin) Sharing Economy Information Consulting Co., Ltd., and Liu Gang, director of the Nankai Institute of Economics among other experts, scholars and entrepreneurs conducted exchanges and discussions on frontier topics of the digital economy.
