Enjoy the academic feast, "Future Scientists" Beijing team won the title for 15 consecutive years

On November 11, 2019, the 19th "Awarding Program for Future Scientists", co-sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and Zhou Kaixuan Foundation, ended up at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Academician Wu Yueliang made a report on the evaluation on behalf of the evaluation committee.

58 students from Beijing shortlisted for the final evaluation; as a result of the individual reasons a classmate abstained. Finally a total of 57 students participated in the final evaluation. Zhang YuZhen, a student of Beijing Normal University the second affiliated middle school, won the title of the “Future Scientists” by "Dust retention and pollution resistance of several main roadside greening plants in Beijing" and won 50,000 yuan scholarship. In the event, Beijing has won 10 first-class awards, 15 second-class awards, 22 third-class awards, and 10 shortlisted awards, ranking first in the country again.

The program was officially launched on May 10, with 1,785 high school students registered nationwide. After examination of qualifications and preliminary evaluation of experts, 130 senior high school students from 18 provinces (districts, municipalities) and Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Region have entered the final evaluation. Four students abstained in the final evaluation, and the actual number of participants is 126.

In the 6-day final evaluation activity, the final evaluation committee composed of 58 academicians and experts used one-to-one item questioning and comprehensive quality testing, knowledge level testing to conduct in-depth investigation of 126 selected students' innovation and scientific research ability, individual comprehensive quality, and finally confirmed three winners with the title of "Future Scientists", and the first, second and third prizes. The finalists are 15, 35, 50 and 26. In the final review, the judges focused on students' scientific thinking, creativity ability, interests and ambition and so on, "choosing their future peers" from the perspective and standard of scientists, and encouraged them to devote themselves to scientific research.

During the activity, students also participated in a series of rich and colorful science and technology humanities exchange activities, such as academician rostrum, Nobel Prize-winning scientist lecture, "Future Scientists" alumni association, youth science salon, community culture activity, visit science and technology venues, etc. The students felt the personality charm of the science master while broadening their horizons.

The "Future Scientists" Award Program, founded in 2000, is an activity for high school students to select and train reserve talents for scientific and technological innovation. After nearly 20 years of development, the activity has attracted the attention and affirmation from all walks of life, and has become an important brand activity in China's youth innovative talent training system. A large number of science-loving "Potential talents" have sprung up, most of them studying in key universities at home and abroad, and some of them have gone to work, continuing their scientific dreams in scientific research or entrepreneurship.
