CAST delegation visits Myanmar, Pakistan
This visit has greatly promoted the cooperation between China and Pakistan in mutual recognition of engineering capacity and internationalization of science communication.
At the invitation of the Myanmar Engineering Council (MEngC) and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), a delegation of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) led by vice president Meng Qinghai visited Myanmar and Pakistan on November 3-10, 2019.
In Myanmar, Meng met with education minister Dr Myo Thein Gyi, construction minister U Han Zaw and MEngC president Dr. Charlie Than. The two sides reached a consensus on carrying out bilateral cooperation on the mutual recognition of engineering capacity, and signed an agreement for the mutual recognition of Chinese and Myanmar engineering credentials. Under the agreement, Chinese engineers will be able to work in Myanmar, marking a major breakthrough in the effort to enable engineers of Chinese enterprises to work in countries along the Belt and Road.
In Pakistan, Meng met with federal minister for science and technology Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, PEC chairman Engr. Jawed Salim Qureshi and Pakistan Council for Science and Technology chairman Habib Ullah Khan. The two sides exchanged views on cooperation in science and education. The CAST delegation signed a breakthrough agreement with PEC for the mutual recognition of engineering capacity standards. The delegation also discussed with the Pakistan side the concrete measures for implementing the Beijing Action Roadmap of the World Conference on Science Literacy. The two sides reached consensus on joint initiative to found an international organization.
During the visit, the delegation also met with officials of the Yangon Technological University, the Mandalay University, the National University of Sciences & Technology and the Pakistan Museum of Natural History to open new paths for cooperation in science, technology and education. New cooperation intents were reached concerning technological support for science and technology museums, sharing digital science communication resources and science education for young people.
The delegation also held talks with officials of the Chinese embassies in Myanmar and Pakistan to learn about the development of science, technology, economy and society of their host countries and to exchange views on how to advance cooperation on the mutual recognition of engineering capacity and science communication.
The visit to Myanmar and Pakistan has greatly promoted bilateral cooperation on the mutual recognition of engineering capacity and internationalized science communication, developed new channels and gained new ideas for cooperating with science and education agencies of Myanmar and Pakistan. CAST will continue to explore new models of cooperation with relevant organizations of Myanmar and Pakistan to deepen cooperation in science and education and establish a stable and long-term cooperation mechanism.
