Huai Jinpeng, executive vice president of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), met with vice president Richard Catlow and executive director Julie Maxton of the Royal Society of the UK in Beijing on May 20, 2019.
The two sides held in-depth discussions on how to strengthen exchanges and cooperation on science education, science communication, science and technology policy and science culture.
Huai extended warm welcome to the guests.
Looking back at the past forty years of friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two sides, Huai thanked the Royal Society for its years of concern and support for CAST.
Huai hoped the two sides could take the meeting as an opportunity to strengthen exchanges on topics of common concern such as science education, science culture, science and technology policy and scientific and technological innovation in order to deepen and broaden the two organization's cooperation.
Huai invited the Royal Society to attend the World Conference on Science Literacy and the 34th China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest, both initiated by CAST.
Catlow thanked CAST for its warm reception.
He applauded CAST's efforts in promoting science education and public science literacy and briefed CAST members about the Royal Society's endeavors in these fields.
He stressed at a time of rapid science and technology development, it is very important for science organizations across the world to conduct in-depth international exchanges and cooperation, pointing to the need of a global vision in exploring effective mechanisms for promoting science literacy and education.
Catlow expected CAST and the Royal Society to deepen cooperation under their current cooperation framework and join hands to promote excellence in science.
Also joining the meeting were the Royal Society's officers of international affairs and CAST officials of academic and societies affairs, science popularization and international affairs.
